Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Trinity Christian
August 30, 2008
(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision to Trinity Christian in non-conference soccer play Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Trolls completed a sweep of GPAC teams for the weekend with the win, knocking off Morningside on Friday.
The two teams remained scoreless until the 57th minute when Eric Vanden Berg connected on a header off an assist by Rogelio Guerrero for a 1-0 lead and Trinity added a goal for insurance in the 79th minute when Guerroro scored on a breakaway.
"Our men played the Trolls even in the first half, going into halftime 0-0. We seemed to have the better part of play to start the second half and were pressuring Trinity when the game was halted 7 minutes in with the assistant referee going down with a concussion," said Dordt coach Dave Schenk. "The second goal occurred when keeper Jordan Huisken had to come well off his line. Our guys kept their composure throughout the match and need to work on their communication and the quality of runs up front.
Dordt was slightly outshot 6-5 with Jordan Huisken (junior; Chandler, Minnesota) recording for saves for the match.
Dordt is 0-1 and will face Briar Cliff in a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 3 at 5:30 in Sioux Center. Trinity continues their GPAC series as they face Midland Lutheran on Monday in Fremont, Nebraska.
