Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Midland Lutheran

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's soccer team earned a 5-4 overtime victory over the Midland Lutheran Warriors in GPAC soccer play in Sioux Center on Saturday.
The Defenders got the game winner off the foot of Ephron Pooyer with 1:43 gone in the first overtime.
Midland Lutheran scored almost immediately with less than four minutes gone in the game on a goal by Danny Zuckweiler. Dordt countered in the 11th minute when Dan Koolhaas scored on a penalty kick for a 1-1 tie. A Jake Corum goal with 29:17 left in the half made it 2-1 but the lead was short lived as Dordt's Darin Keizer scored :15 later. Dordt took a 3-2 lead on a Siam Grobler goal with 11:15 left in the half but the Warriors countered with a penalty kick by by Corum to send the game to the half tied 3-3. Corum's penalty kick came with 7:32 left in the half.
Midland Lutheran took their only lead of the second half when Zuckweiler scored unassisted with 31:03 left in the game and Dordt tied it on a Ryan Coon goal off an assist from Koolhaas with 27:29 left in overtime.
The teams played to a standoff for the rest of regulation Siam Grobler set up Pooyer's heroics early in sudden death overtime with an assist.
Dordt's Brandon Vander Wel was in goal and stopped 14 shots. Eric Vrba stopped seven shots for the Warriors.
Dordt is now 2-3-2 in the league and 4-5-2 overall while Midland Lutheran is 3-4 in the GPAC and 8-4 overall. Dordt is scheduled to travel to Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday in GPAC play before heading to York (Nebraska) on Saturday, October 13.
