Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, Iowa) Dordt suffered a 3-2 loss to Morningside in Sioux City on Tuesday night in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. The loss dropped Dordt to 3-5-2 overall and 1-3-2 in GPAC competition. Morningside is currently 2-2 in the GPAC . With the win, the Mustangs bounced back after a shutout loss to Dana last Saturday. For Dordt tonight's loss followed a 1-1 tie to Nebraska Wesleyan over the weekend.

Both of Dordt's goals were scored in the first half off the foot of Ryan Coon, who currently is 9th in the GPAC for total points this season. With the assists were Siam Grobler and Darin Keizer. Morningside only managed to score once before the halftime break, giving Dordt the 2-1 lead going into second half action. The goals by Coon came in the 17th and 42nd minute of the game, sandwiched around a Matt Witt counter.

Mustang goalkeeper Brian Schekirke, who was recently named the NAIA Region III Defensive Player of the Week and the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Menís Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week, held Dordt to a scoreless 2nd half allowing Morningside to hold on to a final 3-2 lead. The Morningside goals were scored with 21 and 19 minutes left in the rest of the game.

Dordt's goalkeeper Jordan Huisken had 3 saves in 9 shots by Morningside. The Defenders totaled 13 shots with five on goal. Dordt will return to their home field against Midland Lutheran (6th in the conference) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
