(Mitchell, South Dakota) The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers ended the Dordt College men's soccer season Tuesday afternoon with a 1-0 win at Mitchell, South Dakota in NAIA Region III quarterfinal round soccer play.
The Tigers scored a goal with 17:14 remaining in the first half as Juan Baltazar knocked a shot in off an assist from Richard Simmonds. The Tigers then were able to hold off numerous Dordt College advances in the second half for the 1-0 lead.
The Defenders, playing without Ryan Coon, the leading goal scorer for Dordt College, fired 15 shots while Dakota Wesleyan had 16.
Brandon Vander Wel was the keeper for Dordt College and made five saves. The Defenders end the season 10-7-1. The Dakota Wesleyan win avenges a 3-2 loss by the Tigers two weeks ago in Sioux Center. Dakota Wesleyan advances to the NAIA Region III semifinals with a 9-7-1 and will play Northwestern on Friday night in Hastings, Nebraska.
