Dordt College Men's Soccer vs. Dakota Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's soccer team defeated Dakota Wesleyan in a hard fought game on Tuesday, October 17 by a final score of 3-2.
Dakota Wesleyan started the game off with two quick goals, the first coming by way of Octavio Hernandez at the 39:31 mark off a rebound of his own shot. The second was scored by Kaleb Herring off a head ball that was received off a direct kick by Jimmy Guitierrez.
Dordt got back in the game with a goal before half when Mike Oppeneer found the net at the 14:02 mark in the first half. Oppeneer's score was set up when he stole the ball and blasted into the bottom left corner of the goal from twenty yards out.
The two teams were scoreless for the next 45 minutes until Dordt's Ryan Coon tied the game with 14:42 left in the second half off an assist by Mike Oppeneer. Then, with time running down on the blustery afternoon, Coon scored again, this time with 3:17 remaining, as he buried a rebound that came from a Mike Oppeneer shot.
Dordt's Brandon Vander Wel toiled in goal and allowed the two goals on five shots while recording three saves. Dakota Wesleyan didn't get a shot off in the second half.
The meeting was the first between the two teams and served to tighten up the conference race. Dordt is now 7-4 in the league and 8-6-1 overall while Dakota Wesleyan drops to 7-3-1 in the GPAC and 7-6-1 overall. The loss was Dakota Wesleyan's second in a row while the win for Dordt came on the heels of a loss to Graceland on Saturday.
