(Orange City, Iowa) The Dordt College men's soccer team moved to 2-0 this season with a 2-1 win at Northwestern College on Tuesday night in a Great Plains Athletic Conference game.
The Defenders scored in the 8th minute when Brett Van Andel scored the first goal off an assist by Ryan Coon. The Defenders took a 2-0 lead when Will Bruinsma scored 12 minutes before halftime.
Northwestern got on the board on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute on a goal by Steven Grand.
The win was the first for Dordt in the series since 2002 and snapped a four game winning streak by the Raiders in the series. Brandon Vander Wel faced seven Northwestern shots while Mike Ten Clay worked in goal for Northwestern, making two saves against four shots on goal.
Dordt 2-0 and Northwestern dropped to 0-4. Dordt was rated third in the NAIA Region III ratings this week while Northwestern held the number two spot.
