Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Creighton

(Sioux Center, Iowa (Vernon Arena)) This game was originally posted as a 5-3 win in favor of Creighton. It turned out that Creighton played the contest with at least one ineligible player so the result has been switched to a 1-0 forfeit win for the Dordt College Blades.

Blake DeJong tallied four of the five goals for Creighton as the Blades fell 5-3 to the Jays this evening. With the victory Creighton improves to 2-9 on the year and pick up their first win on the road while the Blades drop to 4-17 overall.
Blake DeJong scored just 31 seconds in to the game to give the visiting Jays an early 1-0 lead before Dordt's Kevin Vermeer knocked home his fifth goal of the season with 9:03 left in the period to tie the game at 1-1.
Entering the second period tied at 1-1, DeJong scored his second goal of the night at the 18:46 mark and exactly two minutes later Czarnecki made it a 3-1 game with his fourth marker of the year. Dordt's Nic Enerson put the Blades back within a goal when he scored his team leading 10th goal of the season to make it 3-2. DeJong picked up the hat trick with 11:41 left in the period to give the Jays a 4-2 advantage.
With 7:54 to play in the third, Eric Huitsing fired home his eighth tally of the year to make it 4-3 and the Blades were rejuvenated. With about 75 seconds to play, Dordt netminder Riley Braun went to the bench to give the Blades the extra skater and the Blades were all over Creighton but couldn't find the back of the net. With about 15 seconds to play DeJong picked off a pass and skated in to the Dordt end and scored the empty netter with ten seconds to play for the 5-3 final.
Lee Noel had 44 saves, picking up the win in goal for Creighton while Riley Braun had 27 saves in the loss. Dordt was 0-3 with the man advantage and Creighton was 0-4.
The two teams will play again on Saturday, January 25 at 4:15 pm in the Vernon Arena in Sioux Center.
