Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Missouri State

(Mediacom Ice Park, Springfield, Missouri) The Dordt Blades were unable to recover after giving up three first period goals, falling 6-2 to the Missouri State Ice Bears in MACHA contest this afternoon (December 7, 2013). With the loss the Blades fall to 4-14 on the year and 1-7 in MACHA play while the Ice Bears move to 12-11 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
The Ice Bears picked up goals at 18:49, 9:29 and 7:13 in the first period to take a 3-0 lead at the first intermission.
After scoring the final goal of the first period, Brandon Olson scored with 2:25 left in the second to get his second point and lift the home team to a 4-0 advantage. Twenty-six seconds later, Dordt's Eric Huitsing made it a 4-1 game with his seventh goal of the season off an assist from Eric Grootenboer. Not to be outdone, the Ice Bears scored 37 after the Huitsing marker to regain the four goal cushion and the teams skated to the locker room with Missouri State on top 5-1.
Missouri State took a 6-1 lead at 15:10 with a Tony Schwer goal and Eric Grootenboer, who posted the hat trick yesterday evening, finished off the scoring with his fifth marker of the year with an assist from Huitsing.
Riley Braun turned away 47 shots in the loss for Dordt College while Keith Parker had 34 saves in the win.
Dordt will be off until January 17, 2014 when they take on Arkansas in Springdale, Arkansas.
