Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Wyoming: Clash in the Corn

(Sioux Center, Iowa (Vernon Arena)) The Dordt Colleges Blades knocked off the University of Wyoming 2-1 in the evening finale of day one action in The Clash in the Corn. With the victory Dordt sits in a three way tie in the six team tournament with Colorado State, Metro State and the Blades all garnering two points in the first day of action. The Blades improve to 3-11 on the year while the 13th ranked (Pacific Region) Cowboys drop to 5-8 on the season.
Eric Grootenboer put the Blades up top when he knocked home the rebound of a Chase VanGaalen shot at 15:36 in the first period with the Blades on the power play. For Grootenboer it was his first goal of the season in just three games played and VanGaalen picked up his first point of the year with the helper.
Nic Enerson got his team leading eighth goal of the year and the eventual game winner when he pocketed one at 9:45 in the second period with assists from Kevin Grootenboer and Lucas Koomans.
An Allen Morton goal for the Cowboys with just 96 seconds left in the contest cut the Dordt lead in half. The Cowboys pulled their netminder with 54 seconds left to get out the extra attacker and were able to get off a shot rang off the left post but couldn't get one behind Dordt netminder Riley Braun, who turned away 44 shots on the night, preserving the win.
The Blades were 1-5 on the power play and a perfect 5 for 5 on the penalty kill. Sloan Locker had 29 saves in goal for the Cowboys.
Dordt College will return to the ice tomorrow (Friday, November 22nd) at 7:30 pm when they take on Colorado State in day two action in The Clash.
