Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Wisconsin-Platteville

(Sioux Center, Iowa (Vernon Arena)) The Dordt College Blades were able to get off to a quick start tonight, scoring just a minute and 53 seconds in to the game but surrendered six straight before falling 6-2 to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville this evening. The Blades fall to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play while the Pioneers improve to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the MACHA.
Andrew DeHaan got the Blades on the scoreboard first when he scored his second goal of the season at 18:07 in the opening period to give Dordt the 1-0 lead, Levi Minderhoud had the assist. Abe Liebel leveled the score with a goal at 10:16 and Riley Zehner gave the Pioneers the lead with an unassisted goal at 2:23 with the two teams playing 4 on 4.
The Pioneers added three goals in the middle period to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Abe Liebel picked up his second goal of the night at 16:33 and Alex Walczak scored short-handed with 1:15 to play to make it a 4-1 advantage. With just 48 seconds left in the middle period Elias Motz tallied for the 5-1 cushion.
Motz scored his fifth goal of the season at the 17:27 mark of the third period to put the game out of reach. Eric Huitsing added the final goal of the game for the Blades at 7:11 with Preston Crich getting the assist.
Riley Braun had 25 saves in goal for the Blades in the first 40 minutes of action while Ross Van Gaalen had 19 saves in the final 20 minutes in goal for Dordt College.
Andrew Hornick picked up the win between the pipes for the Pioneers turning away 29 of 31 shots.
Dordt College was 0-4 with the man advantage and the Pioneers converted 1 of 6 on the power play.
