Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. University of Iowa

(Sioux Center, Iowa (Vernon Arena)) The Iowa Hawkeyes snapped a six game losing skid with a 3-2 win over the Dordt College Blades this evening in MACHA action played in the Vernon Arena.
Playing in front of a near capacity crowd the Blades gave a short-handed goal in the first period and a power play goal in the second to trail 2-0 going in to the second intermission. Iowa enjoyed the bulk of the second period in Dordt's end, outshooting the Blades 17-6 in the middle twenty minutes of action.
The Blades dominated the third period, blasting 18 shots on goal while holding the visitors to just four and with 7:40 to play in the third period Kevin Grootenboer put a perfect pass on to the tape of Nic Enerson who buried his team leading fourth goal to cut the deficit in half. Dordt College continued to put the Hawkeyes on their heels and Kevin Vermeer brought the crowd to their feet, burying a chance from the slot with 4:26 to go to knot the game at 2-2.
Unfortunately, the momentum would be short lived for the Blades as Jason Wiedmyer pocketed the game winner for the Hawkeyes with 2:33 to play.
Jeremy Fisher-Haase picked up the win in goal for the Hawkeyes with 36 saves, while Dordt netminder Riley Braun moves to 1-1 on the year, stopping 33 shots.
The Blades were 0-3 with the man advantage while the Hawkeyes were 1-4 on the power play.
The Hawkeyes and Blades will hit the ice again tomorrow (October 19) at 4:15 pm in the Vernon Arena in Sioux Center, Iowa.
