Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. South Dakota

(Vermillion, South Dakota) The Dordt Blades snapped a three game losing skid with a 3-2 win over the University of South Dakota on Friday, December 9. Dordt College avenged a loss earlier in the season to the Coyotes when the Blades were beat in a shootout. The Blades will take the win into a 5 week break and will resume ACHA D3 play on January 13, 2012 when they host the Creighton 'Jays at 7:30 pm.

After skating to a 0-0 tie in the first period, Dordt's Kevin Ypma got the Blades on the scoreboard first when he tlalied at 12:15 on an assist from Nic Enerson. Just 44 seconds later, Dordt added to their lead as Eric Huitsing got his team leading 11th goal of the season on a helper from Andrew TerHaar. Two minutes after the Huitsing marker, the Coyotes cut the Dordt advantage in half with a goal from Josh Rogers with 9:34 left in the second period and the teams went to the intermission with the Blades ahead 2-1.

Stephen Bollinger tied the game at 2-2 on a goal scored with 7:05 left in the game with assists from Sydney Kroll and Josh Rogers. Dordt quickly took the lead back when David Prins scored an unassisted goal for the game winner at 6:31.

Dordt dominated in shots on goal as the Blades had 45 shots while USD managed only 20. Riley Braun had the win in goal for the Blades while Blake Dunfee took the loss in net for the Coyotes.

Dordt improves to 4-11-0-1 with the victory while the Coyotes drop to 2-3 on the year.
