Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Kansas

(Kansas Expocentre, Topeka, Kansas) The Dordt College Blades, after skating to a 1-1 tie in the first period, picked up a dominating 8-3 win on the road in Kansas to improve to 6-12-2-1 on the year while the Jayhawks drop to 0-19.
Dordt's Eric Grootenboer got the Blades the lead with a goal halfway through the first period on assists from Brandon Fast and Ethan Ulrich. Kansas quickly tied the game less than two minutes later on a goal from Sean Judd.
Brandon Fast go Dordt the lead back with a tally at 13:52 on an assist from Eric Huitsing. Four goals over the last 5 minutes of the second period gave the Blades a commanding 6-1 lead. Doug Veldhuisen made it 3-1 with his 5th goal of the season, Grootenboer picked up another goal at 4:40 to make it 4-1, Fast got his second to make it 5-1 and Eric Huitsing's goal with 53 seconds left in the second period made it a 6-1 hockey game going in to the second intermission.
The Blades kept their foot on the gas in the third period as Fast picked up his hat trick with a goal at 13:30 and Huitsing picked up his team leading 15th of the season on a goal at 8:37. Kansas got the last two goals of the period to make it an 8-3 final.
No goalkeeping statistics were kept for the contest.
The Blades will play Kansas again tomorrow (Saturday, January 28) with game time scheduled for 1:00 pm.
