Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Colorado University

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Blades gave up 3 first period goals and 6 more in the second before falling 10-1 to the University of Colorado this evening (Saturday, December 3). Colorado came into the game ranked 3rd in the Pacific Region of the ACHA and improved their record to 12-6 overall while the Blades fall to 3-11-0-1 with the loss. Both teams were playing their third game in three days and the Blades were dealing with a shortened bench after losing three players to injury the night before.
Colorado's Kubancik knocked in their first goal of the night 10 minutes into the first period and the Buffaloes tagged on two more before the period expired with goals from Matta and Zach Amstutz.
With 12 minutes remaining in the second period the Buffaloes added 3 more goals in 3 minutes and banged home 3 more in the final two minutes of play to take a commanding 9-0 lead into the second intermission.
Dordt stymied the Buffaloes' shut-out bid when Doug Veldhuisen scored on the power play early in the third period. The goal was Veldhuisen's second of the season and Nic Enerson and Andrew De Haan had the assists. Colorado added one more at the 14:58 mark for the 10-1 final.
Nico VanKeulen and Riley Braun shared the netminding duties for Dordt with both goalies playing half the game and both giving up 5 goals.
The Blades were 1-7 on the power play while the Buffaloes were 0-1, scoring all their goals at even strength.
The Dordt Blades will complete the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule with a road game in Vermillion, SD on Friday, December 9 when they will take on the University of South Dakota.
