Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Wyoming
November 19, 2011
(Sioux Center, Iowa) It was a great night for Dordt College hockey players named Eric as all 4 goals for the Blades came from those men and the Blades earned a 4-2 win over Wyoming in the "consolation" game of the Clash in the Corn tournament played in Sioux Center the past three days.
Eric Huitsing gave the Blades the 1-0 lead with a tally at 11:53 in the first period with an assist from Andrew Ter Haar, the goal was Huitsing's 7th of the year and the first point for Ter Haar on the season.
Wyoming tied the game at 12:36 of the second period on a goal by Noah Crank on an assist from Willy Miller. Dordt regained the lead when Eric Grootenboer scored his second of the year when he banged in a rebound off a Dylan Postman shot. Eric Walter made it a 3-1 Dordt College lead when his shot from 10 feet inside the blue line found its way into the back of the Wyoming goal on another Postman assist.
Dordt extended their lead to 4-1 when Eric Grootenboer posted his second goal of the night when he ripped a shot in to the top right hand corner with a helper going to Doug Veldhuisen. Wyoming's Willy Miller scored a goal with less than 40 seconds to go in the game but it would be too little too late as the Blades improve to 3-8-0-1 with the victory while Wyoming drops to 3-9.
Riley Braun had another stalwart game in goal for the Blades as he stopped 32 of 34 shots while his counterpart Ben Steele faced just 19 shots, giving up 4 goals.
