Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Davenport University:Clash in the Corn:

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Fantastic netminding by Dordt's goalie Riley Braun kept the Dordt Blades within range of the Davenport University, but a 3 goal second period onslaught by the Panthers gave the #3 ranked team in the north region of the ACHA a 4 goal lead and they skated away with a 5-0 win.

Braun faced 21 shots in the first period but surrendered only 1 goal as Mike Soto scored on the power play to give Davenport the 1-0 lead going in to the first intermission and the Blades managed only 4 shots in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Tommy Berabe made it 2-0 on a goal with 16:48 to play in the second period and the Panthers extended the lead to 4-0 on a shorthanded goal from Bryon Guerin at 11:22 followed by a Chad Ouellette marker at 7:08. Shots in period number 2 were 16 to 3 in favor of the Panthers.

Davenport added another power play goal in the third period when Mike Soto scored his second of the night and fifth of the tournament at 6:19. Braun was again rock solid in period 3 as he faced 24 shots while the Blades were only able to get one on Davenport netminder John Cruse.

Final shots on goal were 61 to 8 with Cruse picking up his second shut-out in the Clash in the Corn. Davenport improves to 17-2 on the year and will be the number one seed in the tournament semis tomorrow (Saturday, November 19) at 7:30 am when they play the number four seed Colorado State. Dordt drops to 2-8-0-1 on the year and will play in the 2:30 pm game on Saturday (November 19) against Wyoming.
