Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Colorado College

(Away) The Dordt Blades finished their trip to Colorado and Wyoming on a high note as they knocked off Colorado College in a shoot-out after skating to 6-6 tie through regulation and overtime.
Nearly 10 minutes passed without a goal in the first period, when a goal by the Blades triggered a flurry of action with Dordt scoring two goals less than a minute apart at 10:01 and 9:05. The Blades tally at 10:01 was from senior captain Jordan Janz and Zach Staudt gave the Blades a 2-0 lead 56 seconds later. The Tigers responded with a pair of their own with goals at 6:57 and 3:24 to take the game to intermission tied a 2-2.
Dordt took the lead again when Brandon Fast scored his first of the night with 8:40 remaining in the second period. Sixty one seconds later the Tigers again tied the game at 3-3.
Colorado College took their first lead of the game when they scored a power play goal at 13:44. The Blades responded with back to back goals to take back the lead at 5-4, Kevin Christian got the first of the two at 11:44 to tie it while Brandon Fast scored his second of the night at 10:06 to reclaim the lead. The Tigers tied the game yet again at 5-5 just 53 seconds later and took back the lead at 6-5 with another goal with 7:25 on the clock. Thirty-seven seconds later, Eric Huitsing tied the game with a power-play goal at 6:48 and the period would come to a close with the teams tied at 6-6.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net through the five minute overtime period forcing the shoot-out. The Blades picked up their second win of the season with the shoot-out victory. Details on the shoot-out were not available and that information will be added to the recap as soon as possible.
Brand Fast and Gary Huitsing each had 3 points on the night for the Blades with Fast tallying 2 goals and an assist while Gary Huitsing had 3 helpers in the win.
Riley Braun had 30 saves in goal for the Blades while facing 36 shots and his counterpart Mitch Sungelo had the same exact stats in the evenly played contest.
With the win, the Blades improve to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in the NCCHA.
On Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20 the Blades will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the Huskers in a pair of NCCHA conference games scheduled for 7:30 pm on Friday and 7:00 pm on Saturday.
