Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. South Dakota State

(Brookings, South Dakota) For the second night in a row the SDSU Jackrabbits tallied five goals on the Dordt Blades and for the second time it would prove to be enough as the Jacks downed Dordt College 5-3. The Jacks, who are currently ranked 10th in the Pacific Region of the ACHA, improve to 14-7 on the season while Dordt moves to 5-16 overall.
SDSU scored very early in the contest as Tim Rotert knocked in his 9th of the year just 49 seconds into the first period to take the 1-0 lead. Dordt's Doug Veldhuisen answered with his second of the season at 9:43 to tie the game at 1-1.
SDSU took a two goal lead in the second period with markers from Alex Johnson at 19:28 and Tom Novak at 13:43 to go up 3-1. Dordt College cut the lead in half as Brandon Fast scored his team leading 16th goal of the year at 11:44 with helpers from Jordan Janz and Jon Gesink. SDSU regained the two goal cushion at 3:34 in the second when Tom Novak banged in his second of the night to make it 4-2 in favor of the Jacks.
With his second goal of the evening, Brandon Fast again cut the gap down to one when he tallied with 18:16 remaining in the third period. SDSU got some additional breathing room with a goal at the 3:50 mark of the third period from team point leader Hunter Anshutz and held the lead to win 5-3.
Dordt finished the game with 25 shots on goal while the Jacks finished with 29 on net.
Dordt's Brandon Fast finished with 2 points on two goals and SDSU's Hunter Anshutz had a 4 point night tallying one goal and adding 3 helpers. Tim Rotert had 2 points on a goal and an assist.
Dordt's Nico VanKeulen made 24 saves in the loss and the Jacks' Jon Boerger had 22 saves in the win, improving to 4-3 on the year.
The Blades will finish off their regular season with a pair of games in Bloomington, Minnesota against Northwestern Health Sciences University on Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5.
