(Vermillion, South Dakota) The Dordt Blades record remains unblemished in 2011 as they defeated the University of South Dakota for the second night in a row. Tonight's game was a little more dramatic as the Blades defeated the Coyotes in a shoot-out 5-4 to improve to 5-14 on the year and extend their win streak to 3.

Dordt College came out with the win even though they never held the lead during regulation or overtime with the game winning goal being awarded via the shoot-out. The two teams alternated goals for the entire evening with USD scoring first each time and the Blades matching goal for goal. USD tallied at the 16:24 mark of the first period and it took Dordt over a period to tie the game at 1-1 when Kevin Christian scored his 9th of the season with 14:50 remaining in the second period.

The Coyotes regained the lead again when Stephan Bollinger beat Riley Braun just 45 seconds after the Dordt goal to make it 2-1 with 14:05 left in the second. Again it would take Dordt over 20 minutes to tie the game as Jordan Janz added his 9th of the year to tie it at 2-2 with 11:50 to play in period #3. USD took the lead back 69 seconds later when Bollinger added his second of the night to make it 3-2. Brandon Fast tied the game for the third time with 5:13 left on the clock.

With only 1:43 to play in regulation the Coyotes took the lead for the 4th time on a Jordan Heckenlaible marker with only 1:42 to play. With Dordt playing short-handed and trailing by a goal, the Blades elected to pull Riley Braun for the extra attacker with a face-off in the offensive zone. With just 17 seconds left, Jordan Janz won the draw to Brandon Fast who buried his second of the night to force the overtime session.

Neither team was able to score in the five minute overtime period, with Dordt holding a small 3 to 2 advantage in shots on goal, forcing the shoot-out.

Jordan Heckenlaible went first for the Coyotes in the shoot-out and was stopped by Dordt's Riley Braun. Dordt freshman Eric Huitsing went first for the Blades and beat the Coyote's Dylan Winthers to give Dordt the 1-0 lead. Stephan Bollinger was due up next for USD and Braun stood tall again stopping Bollinger. Jordan Janz then tallied for Dordt College to secure the shoot-out victory for the Blades.

Janz finished the night with 4 points on a goal and 3 assists while Brandon Fast had 3 points with his team leading 11th and 12th goals of the year and one assist. Jon Gesink added to his team leading assist total and now has 13 helpers.

Riley Braun faced 24 USD shots during regulation and overtime, turning away 20 but more importantly stopped both shots during the shoot-out for his 5th win of the year. Dylan Winthers saw 45 shots through regulation and OT.

Dordt will play at home on Friday, January 29 at 7:30 pm against SDSU before traveling to Brookings for the second game with the Jacks on Saturday, January 30.
