Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. University of South Dakota

(Sioux Center, IA) Dordt College got its second win in a row with a 7-2 victory over the University of South Dakota to improve to 4-14 on the year.

The Blades got the first two goals of the night when Jordan Janz got his eighth goal of the season at the 16:08 mark from Brandon Fast and Jon Gesink and the Eric Huitsing scored an unassisted power play goal about a minute and a half later.

USD's Sydney Kroll cut the lead in half and got the equalizer with two tallies just over a minute apart, the first coming with 13:32 to play in the first period and the other at the 12:19 mark. With 5:53 to play in the first, the Blades got the game winning goal from Eric Huitsing as he banged in his second power play goal of the night and his sixth of the season with Jon Gesink getting the helper.

Dordt added insurance goals in the second period with a goal from Brandon Fast and two goals form Kevin Christian. Fast scored at 6:03 from Christian and Janz while Christian got his two at 4:24 and 2:22. Assisting on Christian's first goal was Brandon Fast while Janz and Walter added helpers on the second.

Brandon Fast got his second of the night to get the Blades the 7-2 win with Dordt's third power play goal of the night at 17:47 from Jon Gesink.

Dordt ended the night going 3 for 6 with the man advantage and were 2 for 2 on the penalty kill.

Five Dordt players had multiple point nights as Brandon Fast finished with 4 on 2 goals and 2 assists while Kevin Christian ended the night with 3 points on 2 goals and an assist. Jordan Janz also had 3 points on a goal and 2 assists and Jon Gesink had 3 assists for 3 points. Eric Huitsing had 2 power play goals for 2 points.

Riley Braun improved to 4-6 on the year and turned away 25 of the 27 shots he faced. Collin Smith spent almost 38 minutes in goal with 30 saves and was the goalie of record in the loss. Dylan Winthers gave up 4 goals in 20 plus minutes of action turning away 11 shots.

Dordt College will travel to Vermillion, South Dakota tomorrow (January 22)evening to take on the Coyotes at 8 pm in The Ice Box.
