Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Hope College: Clash in the Corn

(Sioux Center, IA) The Dordt Blades lost a lopsided 8-0 outing at the hands of the Hope College Flying Dutchmen this evening in the Clash in the Corn tournament in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Dordt was outshot from the beginning of the contest but were still deadlocked at 0-0 when Brandon Fast picked up a 5 minute major with 9:27 left in the first period. During the major penalty Hope College tallied two power play goals to take the 2-0 lead. Justin Glick tallied his 8th goal of the season to get the scoring started at the 8:13 mark and Justin Johnston got his third of the year at 4:46.
Hope College added 4 more goals in the second period, outshooting Dordt 33-3 over the 20 minutes. Johnston got his second of the evening at 16:13 while Kyle Plachta added another at 9:31. Hope captain Chris Kunnen added his 9th of the year at 7:53 and Kevin Deane rounded out the second period scoring with a marker at 2:14.
Hope tagged on two more goals in the third period as Kunnen added his second of the night at 4:12 and Caleb Digison got the final goal at 3:13.
Nico VanKeulen had 53 saves in goal for the Dordt Blades for a .869 save percentage while Sean LaDouce turned away all 6 shots in the win for Hope.
Dordt moves to 1-7 on the season with the loss while Hope College improves to 8-1.
Dordt College will play College of the Canyons in the final game of the Clash in the Corn at 4:30 pm on Saturday, November 5.
College of the Canyons leads the tournament with two wins as they defeated Hope on Thursday by a score of 5-3 and knocked off Wyoming 9-4 today.
