Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. South Dakota State University

(Away) Dordt fell to the SDSU Jacks by a score of 8-5 tonight in Brookings, South Dakota to drop to 5-6-1 overall on the season. The game was the first of two games this weekend against SDSU.
After surrendering the first goal of the contest Dordt answered with one of their own, a power play goal with 14:02 remaining in the first period. Nate Woudstra had the goal on an assist from Jon Gesink. Dordt then gave up two more goals in the first period and the first goal of the second period and found themselves trailing 4-1 just 3 minutes into the second. Less than a minute after going down by 3 goals Nate Woudstra got his second tally of the night with an assist from Kevin Christian. Bakker then cut the lead down to one on another power play goal with 13:19 to go in the second. The period ended with the score 4-3.
With the score now 4-3 the Jacks opened the third period with another 3 goal run to push the score to 7-3 with 14:27 to go in the game. Dordt answered back with a goal from Erik Walter at 11:14 and then Janz scored with just over a minute to go to make it a 7-5 hockey game. With Ted Gibbons pulled to put out the extra attacker the Blades gave up an empty netter to drop the opener of the home and home serier.
Jake Esselink had 3 points on 3 assists for the Blades while Nate Woudstra finished with 2 points on 2 goals.
Ted Gibbons made 23 saves in the loss for the Blades and Jon Boerger made 36 saves in the win for the Jacks.
Dordt will play SDSU again tomorrow with this contest being in the Vernon Arena in Sioux Center at 4:15 pm.
