Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Creighton

(Sioux Center, Iowa) In the first of two games with Creighton this weekend the Blades torched the Jays goal to win 11-3 and improve to 3-3-1 on the season.
Although Dordt had more opportunities in the early going it would be the Jays that would strike first with a marker at 15:33 in the first to take a 1-0 lead, Matt Baer scored the goal with assists from Revolinski and Connor Hayes. Neither team was able to score over the next ten minutes but then Dordt's Todd Bakker got hot and in a span of only 3 minutes and 44 seconds the high scoring forward tallied a hat trick. The first two goals both came with extra ice available as 4 on 4 hockey was being played, at 5:46 Bakker scored with an assist from Esselink and at 2:33 he popped in another with an assist from Nate Woudstra. Just 29 seconds after that Bakker got the hatty with at 2:04 with helpers going to Esselink and Dordt netminder Ted Gibbons. The period ended with the score 3-1.
In the second period Dordt would extend the lead to 6-1 by getting the first 3 tallies of the period. First it would be Ethan Ulrich from Bakker at 17:02; Ulrich's first of the season, then Zach Staudt got his first goal as a Dordt Blade at 16:39 with an assist from Bakker. Bakker, not content with the hat trick added another at the 15:05 mark with assists from Esselink and Francis. Creighton brought the margin to 6-2 with the last goal of the second period at 4:33 with Sharpe scoring on an assist from Ambrose Munro.
The third period featured five more goals from the Blades. Woudstra from Huitsing at 15:38 was the first marker, Esselink from Janz the second at 12:36 and than Janz got one of his own at 10:54 with help from Woudstra. Huitsing would make it a 10-2 game at 9:52 when he scored the lone power play goal of the night on an assist from Jon Gesink. The final Dordt goal was Woudstra's second of the night at 7:43 from Esselink and Janz, to make it 11-2. Creighton had the last goal of the night at the 1:53 mark to make the 11-3 final with Sam Olson getting the goal on assists from Connor Hayes and Tony Revolinski.
Ted Gibbons registered 19 saves in goal for the Dordt Blades while Creighton's back up netminder Zach Porter, filling in for Colin Gordon who was ill, had 34 saves on 45 shots.
Todd Bakker finished with 4 goals and an assist for 5 points while Nate Woudstra had 4 points on 2 goals and two assists. Jake Esselink lead in assists with 3 on the night.
Bakker leads the team with 12 goals and 10 assists for 22 points.
Dordt will head to Omaha tomorrow for another game with Creighton University with a scheduled start time of 6:15 pm.
