Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Northwestern Health Sciences

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Blades fell to Northwestern Health Sciences University 8-7 in overtime this evening to split the two game series with the Naturals.

Northwestern took an early two goal lead with tallies from Lundbohm and Trimner in the first period. Dordt then answered the call and in a span of less than five minutes to start the second period scored the next three to take a 3-2 lead. The first of the three came from Jordan Janz, followed by Todd Bakker and Ben Wagner. Just 3 minutes later the Naturals knotted the score at three as Lundbohm netted one for the Naturals. Dordt regained the lead less than a minute later on Jordan Janz's second marker of the night. Bohnen finished off the second period scoring for the Naturals to put the score at 4-4 at the end of period number two.

The seventh minute of action in the 3rd period would include a flurry of activity that would result in 3 goals. Dordt scored the first two with Todd Bakker scoring his second of the afternoon 6 minutes and 34 seconds into the period. A mere 4 seconds later Ben Wagner would also get his second of the evening for the Blades to give Dordt a 6-4 lead. Twenty seconds after that the Naturals netted another as Trimer got his second of contest. With 9:43 gone in the period Bohnen would tie the score at 6-6 and NHSU's Stifter would give the Naturals the go ahead goal 11:55 into the period. With only 36 seconds showing on the clock Jon Gesink buried a goal for the Blades to tie the game at 7-7 and send the game into overtime.

A minute and 51 seconds into the OT session NHSU's Aaron Howe got the game winner.

Ted Gibbons played 51 minutes in between the pipes for Dordt surrendering 7 goals while recording 31 saves. Nice Van Keulen played the last 9 minutes of regulation plus the overtime giving up one goal while making 9 saves. For the Naturals Nick Ongaro gave up 7 goals and recording 37 saves for the win.
