Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Iowa State

(First Tier Event Center, Kearney, Nebraska) The Dordt Blades captured the NCCHA Conference Championship with a 4-0 win over the Iowa State Cyclones. The win improves Dordt's record to 21-4-1-1 and the Blades have not lost a game since the semester break.
After a scoreless first period of action, Dordt's second leading point getter Nate Woudstra go the Blades on the board with a power play goal with 18:24 to go in the period, Jon Van Keulen had the lone helper. Blades senior Joel Sikkema extended the lead when he tallied with just 16 seconds to go in the second, Todd Bakker assisted on the play.
The third period featured two more Dordt goals with the first coming on the power play at 19:19 off the stick of Kevin Prins, assists on the play went to Bakker and Esselink. The final goal went to Brandon Breukelman with Bakker picking up his third assist and the other helper went to Woudstra. Bakker, Dordt's top point man finished the night with three points on three assists.
"This was a much better game than last night's. It was pretty physical, but in the second we really started to click. It was a very solid effort for us. Their goaltender was hot," said Coach Nate van Niejenhuis.
Ted Gibbons had the shut-out for Dordt facing 19 shots on the night, while Iowa State's netminder faced 51 shots from the Blades.
Dordt was scheduled to face Iowa State again on Saturday, February 28 in Ames as their final tune-up before heading to the ACHA National Tournament March 4th through the 7th but the game has been cancelled.
