Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Iowa State

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Blades hockey team completed a two game sweep over the Iowa State Cyclones with a 4-2 victory this afternoon at the Vernon Arena.

Brad Westervelt got the Blades on the scoreboard first putting the puck in the back of the net with the help of Heerema and Woudstra, the goal came just 5 minutes in to the first period. The next 15 minutes of the first period would include Dordt short-handed for two minutes and a pair of off-setting minors but no more goals.

Dordt senior captain Jared Rempel got the lone tally of the second period with a helper going to Jake Esselink to give the Blades a 2-0 lead going into the second intermission.

Havinga kept the Dordt scoring going with an unassisted goal in the third period three minutes in to the frame.

In spite of the 3 goal deficit, the Cyclones did not give in and cut the Dordt lead to just one with goals from Laming and Ulm three minutes apart.

Dordt got the two goal cushion back when Woudstra scored his sixth goal of the season with a little under 5 minutes left in the game.

Dordt goalie, Ted Gibbons had a solid game in goal facing 34 shots, stopping all but 2 for a .941 save percentage.

The Blades have a perfect 5-0 record and will hit the road next weekend for two games against St. Thomas on October 24 and 25. The games will be played at the Parade Ice Gardens in Minneapolis, Minnesota with the Friday game beginning at 8:00 pm and the puck will drop at 5:00 pm for the Saturday contest.
