Dordt College Blades Hockey vs. Nebraska

(Brookings, South Dakota) The Dordt College Blades hockey team swept their way to a 3-0 record at the South Dakota State Early Bird Invite with a 6-2 win over Nebraska-Lincoln on Saturday in Brookings, South Dakota on Saturday. Dordt beat their opponents by a combined 24-4 count this weekend.
Dordt got on the board at the 10:12 mark of the first period on a Nate Woudstra power play goal off an assist by Jared Rempel and Jake Esselink. Dordt blistered the Nebraska-Lincoln goal for three quick scores with Todd Bakker getting one off an assist from Jon Van Keulen at the 9:43 mark and Kurtis Heerema had a goal from Esselink and Jon Gesink at the 9:15 mark. Rempel finished the scoring in the first period off an assist by Esselink with :58 left.
The Blades then put the game out of reach with goals by Bakker and Kevin Prins at the 13:18 and :43 mark of the second period. Van Keulen assisted on the Bakker score and Breukelman and Gesink were credited with assists on the Prins score.
Dordt's Ted Gibbons was in goal and faced 34 shots with 32 saves. Nebraska-Lincoln got goals in the second and third periods to avert the shutout.
Bakker was credited with a total of two goals while four other players had one a piece. Esselink had a pair of assists as did Van Keulen.
Dordt is 3-0 and will host Iowa State on Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18 at 7:30 and 3:45.
