(Orange City, Iowa)
The Dordt College Defender golf team entered two units in the Northwestern Red Raider Invite on Tuesday, September 2 at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa. The Defenders placed a unit fourth and twelfth in the 18-hole single day event.
"The clouds cleared up, but the wind stayed high and the team played well despite the conditions," said Dordt coach Mark Christians.
Dordt was led by Brad Evenson (Senior; Buhler, Kansas) with a 74 and placed fourth overall.
"Brad Evenson played a very smart round of golf," said Christians.
Collin Broekhuis (Senior; Edgerton, Minnesota) came in with a 76 while Jared Rempel (Senior; Chilliwack, British Columbia) took in a 78.
"Jared Rempel couldn't keep his front momentum going," said Christians.
Rempel recorded four birdies for his round while Broekhuis and Evenson had 12 and 11 pars respectively.
Three other Defenders were under 80 with Jordan Janz (Sophomore; Denver, Colorado) shot a 79 while Ryan Kamp (Freshman; Tinley Park, Illinois) led the Gold unit with a 76 and Austin Schuiteman (Freshman; Orange City, Iowa) had a 78. Kamp and Schuiteman were golfing in their first college meet.
Landsmeer Golf Course is a par 71 course and measures 6411 yards.
Dordt's next action is this Thursday when they travel to Storm Lake for the Buena Vista Invite and then will golf this Saturday in the first GPAC qualifier. The GPAC event is the first of four this fall and spring to determine the conference champion. The first event is scheduled to be played in Mitchell, South Dakota and is hosted by Dakota Wesleyan.
"The key question at this early point in the season is who will earn the #5 spot on the team for that first GPAC meet," said Christians.
