Dordt College Men's Golf at GPAC Championship

(Sioux City, Iowa (Green Valley)) The Dordt College Defender golf team ended day one at the Great Plains Athletic Conference championship in a tie for second place with a team total of 311 at the Green Valley Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa. The Defenders got consistent performances from their four top golfers for the day and stand six strokes out of first place with one day to go.
Jason Kroese and Collin Broekhuis each recorded 77's, Jordan Janz a 78 and Matt Zwart a 79 for Dordt's four keepers. Jared Rempel's 84 was dropped from the scoring.
Northwestern's Luke Vermeer is the day one leader with a 70 while Kroese and Broekhuis are part of a three way tie for ninth place and Janz is in fifteenth.
Dakota Wesleyan is the day one leader with a 305 and Dordt is tied with Hastings in second. Nebraska Wesleyan and Midland Lutheran are both tied at 314 to round out the top-five through one day.
Conditions on Monday were cool and breezy for the eleven team event. The top five finishers at the GPAC championships will qualify for the NAIA Region III championships on April 28 and 29 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The four best scores are kept each day in figuring team scoring. Play resumes Tuesday, April 22 at 9:00 A.M. at the par 72, 7085 yard Green Valley course. Dordt is bidding for the third straight berth in the regional tournament.
