Dordt College Football vs. Morningside

October 27, 2012

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College football team lost a 41-0 decision at the hands of the Morningside Mustangs in Sioux City on Saturday, October 27. The hosts used a 27 point outburst in the third quarter to pull away from a 14-0 halftime advantage and won their eighth game of the season in as many tries.

The Mustangs got on the board early in the second quarter when Kyle Schuck caught a five yard pass from Joel Nixon at the 14:28 mark of the second quarter. Schuck was on the receiving end of an 18 yard pass at the 4:12 mark of the half that made it 14-0 and that's how the half ended.

The Mustangs set the tone in the third quarter with a Colby Henderson 98 kick return on the first play of the half. Nixon later found Schuck for two more scoring strikes to make it 35-0 and the final score came after a Dordt fumble in its own territory that set up a 27 yard drive and a Jon Halvorson score for a 41-0 final.

Dordt was able to move the sporadically, getting as far as the Morningside 34 and 24 on two drives, turning it over on downs on one series and on an interception on the other.

Dordt was outgained 415-117 with Morningside getting 224 yards on the ground and 241 in the air. Dordt had 93 yards rushing and 24 in the air. Dordt held the football for 31:03 and Morningside had it for 28:57.

Daniel Fennig ran for 37 yards on seven carries and Lenard Manuel had 11 carries and 33 yards. Caleb Leuzinger, in his first collegiate start, was 5-10 in the air for 24 yards. Fennig caught two passes for seven yards.
