Dordt College Football vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Three early Dordt turnovers led to scores for Nebraska Wesleyan and that's the cushion the Prairie Wolves used to take a 27-7 win over the Defenders in GPAC play on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center.
The Defenders moved the football on their first drive but a Kyle Henricks pass was picked off by Seth Wardyn at his own 35 yard line and he wove his way 65 yards for a touchdown at the 11:28 mark of the first quarter.
The next Wesleyan score came with 9:08 left in the quaarter when the visitors capitalized on a Dordt fumble at their own 31. Jordan Delbaugh went in from two yards out to make it 14-0 to cap a six play, 31 yard drive.
Wesleyan capped the first quarter explosion with a 13 yard drive after Dordt fumbled on the first play from scrimmage on the ensuing drive. Dustin Bryant found paydirt off a pass from Tyler Francis with 7:19 left in the quarter for a 21-0 lead.
The Defenders got on the board when Erin Francis took a pitch on a sweep to the right and went in from two yards out to make it 21-7. The carry capped a eight play, 53 yard drive.
Wesleyan closed the first half scoring on a 31 yard field goal by Aaron Lorraine with 3:40 left in the half.
After a scoreless third quarter the visitors got another Lorraine field goal from 26 yards out for the final of 27-7. Dordt was turned away at the Wesleyan eight and 13 yard line on drives late in the game.
Dordt was outgained 308-113 with the Prairie Wolves getting 94 yards on the ground and 214 yards in the air. Dordt had 59 yards on the ground and 54 in the air. Daniel Fennig gained 34 yards on eight carries and Kyle Henricks completed eight passes for 54 yards. Erin Francis caughtthree passes for 13 yards and Darryl Van Grouw had two catches for 21 yards.
Wesleyan's Dustin Bryant had 12 carries for 53 yards and Tyler Francis was 20-33 in the air for 174 yards with Dustin Bryant catching four for 39 yards.
Seth Vande Voort led the Defenders with seven solo and five assisted stops and Sam Ashmore had seven solo and three assisted stops. Vanoy Harris had six solo stops as did Ray Cleveland and Cleveland had an interception, his third of the year.
Dordt is 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the GPAC while Nebraska Wesleyan is 2-4 and 1-4. Dordt will host Dakota State in non-conference play on Saturday, October 20 at 1:00.
