Dordt College Football vs. Concordia

(Seward, Nebraska) Early turnovers by the Dordt Defender football team put them in a hole that they were never able to get out of, falling to Concordia 52-12 on Saturday, September 22 in Seward, Nebraska.

Dordt drove the ball on their first possession from their own 23 to the Bulldog 43 before an interception and return by Derek Blessing set the Bulldog offense up at the Dordt 20. Concordia scored on the first play from scrimmage and made it7-0. Dordt marched into Concordia territory on the next drive only to throw another interception that Blessing picked off at the Concordia 26. Concordia went on a 14 play, 74 yard drive that culminated with a touchdown at the 14-19 mark of the second quarter and the hosts made it 15-0 after the two-point conversion.

The score was the start of a 31 point second quarter that featured three touchdowns and three field goals.

Dordt got on the board in the third period when Kyle Henricks plunged in from one yard out to cap an eight play, 33 yard drive that started when Concordia fumbled the ball at its own 33 yard line. Concordia scored a touchdown at the 5:47 mark and Dordt's second score was a Trai Pickney one yard run that capped a 13 play, 62 yard drive. Concordia's last score came at the 8:26 mark to make it 52-12.

Dordt was outgained 361-245. Dordt outgained Concordia on the ground 178-163. All told, the Defenders had five turnovers to one for the Bulldogs. Trai Pickney had 55 yards on six carries and Lenard Manuel had eight carries for 41 yards. Daniel Fennig had seven totes for 34 yards. Kyle Henricks completed 6-12 passes for 58 yards and David Griess caught three balls for 35 yards.

Concordia got 49 yards each from Aaron Gillory and Victor Brown on the ground and Von Thomas was 14-23 in the air for 164 yards. Colten Quinabo caught five passes for 43 yards and Noah Smith had four catches for 58 yards and two touchdowns.

Ray Cleveland led Dordt with nine solo and three assisted stops. Seth Vande Voort was in on three and seven while Sam Ashmore and Josh Nollmeyer had five solo tackles each with four assisted stops.

Dordt is 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the GPAC while Concordia is 1-3 and 1-2. Dordt will host Briar Cliff on Saturday in GPAC play kicking off at 1:00.
