Dordt College Football vs. Midland

(Fremont, Nebraska) Dordt College lost a 26-7 decision to Midland in GPAC football on Saturday afternoon, September 15 in Fremont, Nebraska.

The Warriors scored 20 points in the second quarter to take control of the game with the Defenders getting a touchdown near the midpoint of the fourth quarter.

Midland scored their first touchdown with 14:33 left in the first quarter when Kene Martin went two yard to cap a six play, 40 yard drive for a 7-0 lead. The Warriors had a 64 yard drive on their next possession and recovered a fumble in the end zone when the runner was stopped just short of the goal line to make it 14-0. The hosts then capped the quarter with a 13 play, 80 yard drive with 1:57 left in the half for a 20-0 halftime difference.

The two teams were scoreless in the third quarter with Dordt missing a 34 yard field goal late in the third quarter. Midland got another score on the first play of the fourth quarter on a 54 yard pass play.

The Defenders got on the board at the 6:32 mark when Kyle Henricks plunged in from one yard out to cap an 11 play, 80 yard drive. Dordt converted on a pair of third down tries on the drive to keep the ball moving. Dordt recovered the ensuing short kickoff at the Midland 40 but were unable to punch in a second score.

Dordt ran for 193 yards on the ground with Midland outgaining Dordt 417-291 for the game. Lenard Manuel ran for 56 yards on 11 carries and Trai Pickney gained 33 yards on four rushes. Kyle Henricks kept it nine times and gained 29 yards. Henricks also completed five passes for 79 yards. David Griess caught three balls for 21 yards and Trai Pickney had two catches for 42 yards.

Dominic Blood gained 114 yards on 13 rushes and Kene Martin had 17 rushes for 91 yards. Lee Horky threw for 169 yards on 17-26 passing and Jesse Bubke had six catches for 85 yards.

Dordt's defense was led by Sam Ashmore with five solo and seven assisted tackles and Ray Cleveland had six solo and four assisted stops with an interception at the goal line in the first quarter.

Dordt is 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the league and will face Concordia on Saturday, September 22. Midland is 2-0 overall and in the GPAC.
