Dordt College Football vs. Doane

(Crete, Nebraska) Doane College attacked from the start, using a hurry-up offense from the outset and beat the Dordt College Defenders 63-26 in Great Plains Athletic Conference football on Saturday, November 5 in Crete, Nebraska.
The Tigers scored on of their first seven possessions in building a 42-14 halftime lead.
The Defenders scored at the 10:14 mark of the second quarter on a Daniel Fennig one yard run that capped a ten play, 70 yard drive that made the score 28-7 at the time. Jeremiah Saffold answered back with a 90 yard kickoff return on the very next play to take any momentum the Defenders had away.
Dordt was able to go the length of the field right before halftime to cut the lead to 42-14, traveling 85 yards on five plays with Sam Du Mez taking in a five yard pass for a score. Sophomore Darryl Van Grouw made a leaping grab at the five yard line to set up the score, getting credit for a 31 yard reception on the fingertip grab.
Chandler Kurth came on in relief after halftime as Justin Knot was injured on the scoring drive that came near the end of the first half. Kurth orchestrated a 73 yard drive to make it 42-20 and got into the end zone with a dive to the corner to cap the drive.
Dylan Doebler was the third Dordt quarterback to get the Defenders into the end zone with a nine yard pass to Van Grouw with 00:31 left to finish a 12 play, 80 yard drive.
Doane scored on drives of 72, 67, 21, 51, 64, 69, 23 and 62 yards during the game and struck quickly with a total time of possession of 25:43.
Dordt was outgained 488-366 but matched Doane in the air with 289 yards to the Tigers' 295.
Knot threw for 170 yards in the first half on 9-15 passing with one touchdown. Kurth was 4-10 for 55 yards and Doebler was 5-5 for 64 yards. David Griess caught five passes for 63 yards while Trai Pickney had two grabs for 75 yards--one for 38 and the other for 37, setting up two of the Dordt scores. Alex Brabon caught four passes on the final drive for 55 yards and Sam Du Mez had three grabs for 51 yards.
Austin Bosma had six solo and seven assisted stops while Seth Vande Voort had four solo and 10 assisted tackles. Todd Green, who injured a shoulder in the first half but returned to finish the game, had five solo and five assisted stops.
Doane's Anthony Dunn was 16-23 passing for 237 yards and five touchdowns. Alex Dose had 22 carries for 141 yards and Saffold had four grabs for 81 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Dordt is 2-8 overall and 0-8 in the conference. Doane is 7-2 overall and 6-2 in the league. Dordt hosts Northwestern next Saturday while Doane travels to Concordia.
