Dordt College Football vs. Morningside

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Morningside Mustangs recovered from a slow start to score nine touchdowns in the final three quarters of their game with the Dordt Defenders and won a 70-0 decision on Saturday, October 29 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Mustangs scored in what seemed like every way imaginable on the way to the fourth lopsided win for the Sioux City school in the series.
Morningside turned the ball over on three of its first four possessions and held a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter on a Dillon Robinson five yard touchdown run to cap an eight play, 75 yard drive. The Mustangs then got Fred Jones into the end zone with a three yard run at the 11:14 mark of the first half.
The next two strikes for the Mustangs came in quick fashion with a 45 yard pass from Kyle Nikkel to Tyler Sinsabaugh and a 13 yard pass from Nikkel to Kyle Schuck at the 8:14 and 2:45 mark respectively.
Morningside then scored six touchdowns in the second half on drives of 39, 90, 58, 20 and one yard and on a 38 yard fumble recovery and return.
Dordt was outgained 628-60 and gave up 33 first downs while gaining eight. Trai Pickney had 32 yards on the ground on nine carries while Daniel Fennig had 18 carries for 26 yards. Dordt's quarterbacks were a combined 6-23 in the air for 17 yards.
Morningside was led on the ground by Fred Jone with 150 yards on 18 carries and Levi Owen had eight carries for 62 yards. Nikkel completed 20-29 passes for 238 yards and a pair of touchdowns with 59 yards of rushing offense on 11 carries.
Seth Vande Voort had a game high nine solo tackles with five assisted stops and Jon Luetchens had six solo tackles with three assists and an interception with two fumble recoveries. Sam Ashmore and Todd Green each had four solo and six assisted tackles and Anthony Hallum had five solo tackles with three assisted stop sna a pass interception.
Dordt is now 0-7 in the league and 2-7 overall while Morningside is alone in first in the GPAC with a 6-1 conference mark and 7-1 overall record. Dordt travels to Doane in Crete, Nebraska to face the Tigers in GPAC action on Saturday, November 5.
