Dordt College Football vs. Concordia (NE)

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender football team was done in Saturday afternoon, September 24 by a three touchdown third quarter by the visiting Concordia Bulldogs on the way to a 21-7 win for the visitors.
Dordt staked themselves to a 7-0 lead late in the first half when Justin Knot found Sam Du Mez for a 12 yard touchdown pass that capped a 61 yard drive with 00:24 left in the first half. The Defenders got the ball for the drive when Todd Green tipped a pass and Erin Francis intercepted the football at the Dordt 39 yard line. Justin Knot kept the drive alive when he ran for 16 yards on a third down and 14 play from the 28. The score came two plays after the scramble.
The score remained 7-0 into the third quarter when Concordia finally tied it on a 51 yard drive that took 4:18 to complete. Cohl Tufford ran in from five yards out to finish the drive.
Dordt's offense stalled on the next drive and Concordia responded with a 68 yard drive on four plays that Jamarcus Walker capped with a 15 yard run.
Trailing 14-7, the Defenders worked into scoring position with Knot finding Sam Du Mez over the middle for a 57 yard gainer to the Concordia 18 yard line. Knot was intercepted on the very next play at the one and two plays later Derrick Blessing broke through the line of scrimmage and raced 97 yards for a touchdown that made it 21-7 and that's how it ended.
Dordt did have an early chance in the fourth quarter when they went from their own 12 to the Concordia 29, turning it over on downs at the 7:33 mark. Dordt had one more chance end in Concordia territory at the 20 yard line when they turned it over on downs as well with 1:42 remaining.
Dordt was outgained 357-310 with 247 of Dordt's yards coming in the air. Concordia had the football for 31:09 to Dordt's 28:51 and the Bulldogs gained 209 yards on the ground.
Dordt's Justin Knot was 19-40 through the air for 247 yards. Sam Du Mez was on the receiving end of nine catches for 164 yards and Trai Pickney caught five passes. David Griess snagged three passes for 32 yards. Knot was the leading ground gainer for Dordt with 38 yards.
Concordia's Derrick Blessing had 111 yards on five carries and Cohl Tufford completed 13-19 passes for 148 yards.
Todd Green led the Dordt defense with six solo and three assisted tackles while Jon Luetchens had five solo and two assisted stops. Austin Bosma was in on four solo and three assists with Seth Vande Voort and Anthony Hallum both making three solo stops along with Erin Francis. Francis and Hallum both had interceptions with Brice Kroeze and Gerrit Van Leeuwen each getting a sack.
Drew Baxter had six solo and one assisted stop with Jerrod Fleming and Matin Rodriguez each getting one interception.
Dordt is 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the league while Concordia improves to 2-2 and 2-1 in the GPAC. Dordt will travel to Briar Cliff next weekend.
