Dordt College Football vs. Concordia

(Seward, Nebraska) The tone was set in the first half and both teams did all their scoring in a football game at Seward, Nebraska as the Concordia Bulldogs won a 24-7 win over Dordt College in Great Plains Athletic Conference football Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs scored on their first two possessions, marching 89 yards on 11 plays to make it 7-0 on a Austin Freudenburg touchdown at the 7:06 mark of the first quarter. Concordia scored again at the 2:15 mark on a Kenny Zoeller field goal from 42 yards to make it 10-0. The score stood until the midpoint of the second quarter.
Concordia got a special teams play to take a 17-0 lead when Zack Warner fielded a line drive punt and ran a tightrope on the sideline for a 67 yard touchdown return. The big plays didn’t end there for the Bulldogs as they scored on a 73 yard pass and catch from Cohl Tufford to Kyle Hoffman for a 24-0 lead with 4:33 left in the half.
Dordt’s Todd Green got Dordt on the board with a 16 yard interception return for a score at the 2:36 mark of the half when Concordia tried a screen pass deep in its own territory.
Dordt had another scoring opportunity in the second half but Reuben Faber hooked a 32 yard field goal attempt and Concordia spurned a field goal attempt of its own late in the game when they tried a trick play that failed and the game ended where it was at halftime—24-7.
Dordt was outgained 384-102 with Concordia getting 199 yards in the air and 185 on the ground.
Will McClain had 44 yards on 15 carries for the Defenders. Sam Du Mez caught one pass for 13 yards.
Concordia got 76 yards on the ground from Tufford on 26 carries and he completed 12-16 passes for 199 yards. Concordia’s Kyle Hoffman caught six passes for 153 yards.
Dordt’s defense got six solo tackles from Matt Postmus and four assisted stops. Todd Green had three solo tackles, nine assists, the interception for a touchdown and forced a fumble. Jordan Huisman and Henry Byl each had four solo and six assisted stops.
Concordia was led by Ben Klein with three solo and three assisted stops with an interception.
Dordt is 0-8 overall and in the GPAC and will host Sioux Falls at noon next Saturday, November 6 while Concordia is 4-5 overall and 3-5 in the GPAC with games remaining against Northwestern and Sioux Falls.
