Dordt College Football vs. Morningside
October 9, 2010
(Sioux City, Iowa) The Morningside Mustang football team stayed perfect this season with a 71-0 win over the Dordt College football team. The Mustangs lived up to their #4 national ranking in scoring at at least twice in each quarter.
The Mustangs scored on short fields of 18 and 35 yards in the first quarter, capitalizing on Dordt turnovers for a 27-0 first quarter lead. A pair of CJ Gradoville field goals plus a touchdown made it 40-0 at halftime and the Mustangs scored four more touchdowns and a field goal in the second half for the final.
Dordt was outgained 582-85 and surrendered 34 first downs to four for the Defenders. Aaron Floen had ten carries for 33 yards for Dordt and Josh Mouw had nine carries for 19 yards. Micah Twedell was 5-12 in the air while relieving Justin Knot who was knocked out of the game in the first quarter with an injury. Dordt's defense was led by Jon Luetchens with seven solo and two assisted stops while Josh Nollmeyer had four solo and three assisted tackles. Daniel Finley was in on three stops. Seth Vande Voort and Jordan Birdsong were each credited with a fumble recovery.
Josh Crowell led the Morningside running attack with 14 rushes for 109 yards and Mike McNulty had 12 carries and 69 yards. Chris Stutzriem was 12-24 through the air for 140 yards and Jordan Jacupke ran for 67 yards and passed for 55 on 7-11 passing.
Dordt will host Northwestern next Saturday, October 16 at 1:00 while Morningside meets #1 ranked Sioux Falls.
