Dordt College Football vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The second ranked Sioux Falls Cougars kept their season record perfect with a 34-2 win over the Dordt College Defenders in Great Plains Athletic Conference football Saturday afternoon, November 8, in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Cougars scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and led 14-0 at halftime as the Dordt defense took advantage of three interceptions and a fumble recovery to keep the Cougars close.

Sioux Falls scored once by pass on a Scott Le Brun catch on a pass from Lorenzo Brown for eight yards to cap a six play-47 yard drive with 6:54 left in the first quarter. Sioux Falls then scored on a 71 yard drive at the end of the first quarter, moving with the win, scoring on a run by Brown from seven yards out. Dordt held Sioux Falls out late in the second quarter when Phillip Sears grabbed a tipped pass at the Dordt College three yard line. The interception was the third of the game with Isaiah Busby and James Rowenhorst making the other two picks.

Sioux Falls took the opening possession of the second half for a touchdown with Brown completing a pass to Erik Cimpl for a 14 yard pass play with 12:17 left in the third. Dordt scored their only points of the day on the ensuing point after attempt when they blocked the kick and Fred Leyendekker raced the other way for a two-point conversion. Sioux Falls then put the game out of reach with a 20 yard interception return with 10:23 left in the third quarter. The Cougars got one more score on an 11 play-64 yard drive that took 5:44 off the clock and gave the Cougars the final margin of 34-2.

Dordt have the ball deep in Sioux Falls territory early in the fourth quarter after a 29 yard pass completion to Chris Minnema to the Sioux Falls 15. That drive ended in a turnover.

Sioux Falls had 173 yards on the ground and 173 yards in the air. Dordt gained three first downs and had 32 yards on the ground and 53 yards in the air. Scotty Walden had five completions for 53 yards on 16 attempts wtih two completions to Chris Minnema for 34 yards and Ryan Campbell had two catches for 18 yards. Ben Robbins had 13 carries for 18 yards and Charles Milton had 11 runs for 10 yards.

Erik Cimpl had five carries for 50 yards and Ryan Lowmiller had 10 totes for 39 yards. Lorenzo Brown completed 10-20 passes with three interceptions and two touchdowns for 118 yards. Alex Anderson and Jon Ryan each had four catches for 65 and 55 yards respectively.

Isaiah Busby had eight solo and eight assisted tackles for the Defenders while Jack Brundell had five solos and four assisted stops. Ryan Whitworth was good for four solos and four assisted while Jake Dykstra was in on seven assisted stops. Sioux Falls' defense was led by Adam Lopez iwth three solo tackles.

Dordt is now 1-9 overall and 1-8 in the GPAC while Sioux Falls improves to 9-0 overall and in the conference. Dordt travels to Mitchell, South Dakota to face the Tigers on Saturday, November 15 at 1:00 for their season finale.
