Dordt College Football vs. Doane

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender football team lost a 43-0 decision to the Doane College Tigers Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Tigers held a 15-0 lead at halftime and poured it on to the tune of two third quarter touchdowns and two fourth quarter touchdowns on the way to their second win of the conference season.
Doane scored on a pair of field goals in the first half, one a 20 yarder with :10 left in the first quarter and a second with 7:17 remaining in the half from 41 yards out by Derek Groteluschen. Doane got two points on a safety with 5:34 left in the half when Dordt's Fred Leyendekker was unable to field the snap on a punt out of the Dordt College end zone. Doane then tacked a touchdown on after the free kick with 4:49 left in the half on a 47 yard run by Alex Hall.
Down 15-0 at halftime, Dordt was unable to keep Doane out of the end zone on the fir first two possessions of the second half. D'Artag Dai'Re scored on a 20 yard touchdown run with 10:01 left in the third quarter and Michael Vargas capped a 43 yard drvie wtih a three yard run with 2:29 left in the third quarter.
Doane then aired it out in the fourth quarter with a pair of long pass plays, one a long pass play to D'Artag for 56 yards form JR Artozqui and Jeremi Saffold took in a 66 yarder from Artozqui with 5:53 left in the game for the final of 43-0.
Doane had 502 yards of offense to Dordt's 189. Jaremy Puthoff had 25 rushes for 132 yards and Alex Hall gained 55 yards on six carries. Artozqui was 3-6 through the air for 138 yards.
Dordt hwas led by Charles Milton with 59 yards on 14 carries when Scotty Walden was 10-22 through the air for 109 yards. Alex Henderson had five catches for 69 yards for the Defenders and Grant Mowery caught one pass for 13 yards.
Ryan Whitworth led Dordt's defense with five solo tackles and 11 assisted stops and Dan Jansen had four solos and five assisted stops with one sack for a nine yard loss.
Dordt is now 1-7 overall and 1-6 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play while Doane is 2-6 and 2-5. Dordt travels to Briar Cliff in Sioux City, Iowa for their next game, Saturday, November 1 at 1:00.
