Dordt College Football vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, Iowa) The #6 ranked Morningside Mustangs scored early and often taking advantage of short fields and extended drives to forge a 62-0 win over the Dordt College Defenders in Great Plains Athletic Confernece football.
Dordt College, playing their third game of varsity football, was hit early and were unable to recover in dropping the game on the road. Morningside drove 64 yards on six plays with their first possession and scored with 12:13 left in the first quarter. Dordt fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Morningside struck quickly with a second score on their second play of the drive to take advantage of the 13 yard drive. The Mustangs tacked on four more scores in the first quarter when they scored on drives of 79, 25, 50 and 14 yards. The Mustangs then scored on three sustained drives in the second quarter of 50, 68 and 60 yards. In all, Morningside scored the nine times they had the football in the first half.
Dordt did move the ball in the second half, getting inside the Morningside 20 yard line twice, turning the ball over on downs one time and on an interception with the other foray into the Morningside Red Zone.
Dordt amassed 196 yards off offense with 69 coming on the ground led by John Blair's 30 on nine carries. Scotty Walden was 10-21 through the air for 121 yards and his favorite receiver was Joey Vander Schaaf who was on the receiving end of four passes for 52 yards with Alex Henderson and Sam Du Mez getting three each for 39 and 30 yards.
Dordt was topped by Jake Dykstra on defense with six solo tackles and Dan Jansen was in on a total of seven tackles--two for loss. James Rowenhorst had an interception.
Morningside's Ian Gilworth was 10-12 passing in the first half for 258 yards. Joe Don Hunter, Jake Peterson and Tyler Childress all had two touchdown runs for the NAIA power.
Dordt is 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the league and will host Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, September 27 in their next outing at 1:00.
