Dordt College Football vs. Northwestern

September 6, 2008

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders lost a 42-0 Great Plains Athletic Conference game to open their initial 2008 varsity football season.

The Defenders drove the ball into Northwestern territory on their first possession but turned the ball over when Austin Rozeboom picked off a Scotty Walden pass that was batted at the line of scrimmage. On the first play of their possession the Red Raiders struck for a 48 yard touchdown pass from Matt Roesner to Seth Moen for the first score of the game at the 12:06 mark.

The two teams went scoreless the rest of the quarter with Northwestern capitalizing on a Dordt College miscue deep in their own territory when a pitch was mishandled and Northwestern covered it at the one yard line. Two plays later Taylor Malm went over for the score and the point after made it 14-0 with 9:47 left in the half. The Raiders were then able to sustain a drive, culminating an eight play, 62 yard drive with a Matt Roesner touchdown run with 4:06 left in the half for a 21-0 lead. Dordt had their best opportunity to score late in the half when Isaiah Busby returned a pass to the Northwestern 34 and got an additional 15 yards on a personal foul against Northwestern at the end of the play. Dordt turned the ball over on the second play of the possession on a fumble and the half ended 21-0.

Northwestern scored on the first three possessions of the second half for the 42-0 final. Northwestern scored on drives of 68, 43 and 84 yards.
