Coddington)) The Dordt College women’s cross country team finished third out of 18 teams at the Woody Greeno Invite held in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, September 21. The Defenders totaled 78 points, placing third behind Nebraska-Kearney and Iowa Central with 50 and 53 points respectively.
Lauren Opp was the first runner across for the Defenders with a time of 23:06 for seventh place. A pack of three runners wasn’t far behind as Abby De Vries, Kayla Byl and Jordyn Visscher were 13th, 14th and 15th. De Vries ran a 23:21, Byl a 23:22 and Visscher a 23:24 on the 6,000 meter course.
Kelsey Lewis was 30th in 24:11 for Dordt’s final points and Lillie Koerner and Renee Buikema provided the sixth and seventh place Dordt finishes with times of 24:24 and 24:28 for 37th and 43rd overall.
130 runners competed in the race and places listed are finishes and not points.
Hannah Maina won the race with a time of 21:58 while running for Iowa Central.
Dordt’s next competition will be on September 28 when they run at the Roy Griak Invite in St. Paul, Minnesota.
