Ryan Tholen led the Dordt Defenders to fifth place finish at the Briar Cliff Invite on a chilly morning at the Adams Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, South Dakota. Tholen raced to a 25:26 on the 8,000 meter course to lead a tight pack of runner for the Defenders.
Dordt's next five runners were within 22 seconds of each other. Nathan Jackson ran a 26:22 for 27th overall and Chris Postma was 33rd in 26:33. Trent Kischer ran a 26:35 and Jake Byma a 26:40 for 35th and 40th overall and Tim Bierma was 43rd in 26:44. Ryan McNamara was seventh in line for the Defenders with a 26:49 for 48th overall.
Sioux Falls won the race with a total of 27 points and were led by Billy and Bobby Brockmueller with first and second place times of 25:07--the two finished within a second of each other.
Dordt's 129 was behind Morningside and Concordia with 61 and 65 respectively.
Dordt will run next run at the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton in two weeks in the final race before the GPAC Championships.
