(Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve, McCook Lake, South Dakota) The Dordt College women's cross country team finished second at the Briar Cliff Invite held at the Adams Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, South Dakota on Saturday morning, October 6.
The Defenders totaled 68 points in the event with the University of Nebraska Omaha winning the event with a total of 38 points.
Dordt was led by Lauren Opp's sixth place time of 18:14 and Renee Buikema raced the 5,000 meter course in a time of 18:40 for 12th place overall. Dordt's next four runners were tight with Abby De Vries finishing 14th in 18:43 and Merissa Harkema was 17th in 18:47. Kayla Byl and Katie Bonnema weren't far behind in 18:54 and 18:58 respectively for 19th and 23rd place. Dordt's Katie Ogle was the seventh runner across for the Defenders with a time of 19:36 and 44th place overall.
Amanda Vorthman won the face with a 17:12 for Nebraska-Omaha. Doane was third overall in the team race with a 107 total and Concordia fourth with 113.
162 runners and 176 teams competed in a race were starttime temps were in the 30's. Dordt will next run at the Mount Marty Invite in two weeks.
