The Dordt Defender men used a tight pack to claim third in the 14 team field at the Mount Marty Invite on Saturday, October 22 in Yankton, South Dakota. The Defenders totaled 71 points, getting edged by Morningside for second place with 67 points while Concordia won the event with 51 points.
Dordt's lead runner was Ryan Tholen with a time of 26:03 on the 8,000 meter course. Tholen's time was good for sixth place overall. Nathan Jackson and Jeremy Van Woerden went back to back in the 13th and 14th with times of 26:29 and 26:34 respectively. Tim Bierma and Eric Tudor rounded out the scoring in 18th and 22nd out of 148 runners with times of 26:47 and 26:53. Dordt's top runner was just :50 in front of the fifth place runner. Stephan McNamara and Trent Kischer came in with times of 27:03 and 27:15 for 27th and 37th but didn't figure into the scoring.
Places listed are overall places and not point placement.
Benjamin Sievert won the race with a time of 25:40, narrowly edging Andy Coy from Dakota State with a 25:41. Sievert competes for Concordia.
Dordt will run on November 5 in the GPAC Championships hosted at Lincoln, Nebraska.
