NXN Heartland Preview

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota (YanktonTrails) (I-229 to Exit 3 Minnesota Ave or Corner of I-229 and Minnesota )) The Dordt College Defender men's and women's cross country teams both placed second at the NXN Preview Meet hosted in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at Yankton Trails. Michelle Steiger won the women's race to spearhead the Defender effort while the Dordt men had five runners in the top-16.

Steiger won the women's race by a staggering 22 seconds, racing to an 18:57 over the 5,000 meter course. Merissa Harkema placed fifth in 19:45 while Jessica Moseman finished tenth in 20:14. Rachel Werkhoven and Katie Bonnema completed the top-five for Dordt with a 15th and 27th place respectively in 20:37 and 21:26 respectively.

85 women ran in the eight team race. Northwestern claimed the team title with 36 points while Dordt totaled 55 and Sioux Falls 64.

Ryan Tholen was Dordt's top male finisher with a sixth place time of 27:09 while Eric Tudor and Josiah Luttjeboer were 11th and 12th at 27:36 and 27:45. Nathan Brace took 13th in 27:55 while Stephan McNamara was 16th with a 28:07.

Isaiah Samoei of Iowa Western won the 8,000 meter race in 24:55 in leading his team to a first place point total of 56. Dordt was just off the pace with 58 and Sioux Falls was third with 59. The men's race had 93 runners.

Dordt will have a week off before running in the Roy Griak Invite in Minneapolis on Saturday, September 25.
