NXN Heartland Preview in Sioux Falls on Saturday, September 11
The Dordt College women swept the first four places on the way to a win at the Dakota Wesleyan Cross Country Invite Friday, September 3 and the Dordt men took second in the early season event in Mitchell, South Dakota.
The Defender women were paced by Michelle Steiger and Merissa Harkema with a 1-2 finish of 15:48 and 15:49 over the 2.5 mile course. Jessica Moseman and Leah Werkhoven were third adn fourth in 16:24 and 16:31 respectively and Anna Jefferson completed the Dordt scoring with a sixth place finish of 16:56, just in front of Katie Bonnema with a time of 17:00. Bonnema was in seventh place and Gail Dirksen was Dordt's seventh runner across the line in 17:26 which was good for 12th place.
Dordt's Ryan Tholen started his sophomore campaign with a 21:18 finish and fourth place and Eric Tudor was sixth at 22:18. Tudor was the first of a string of three Dordt runners in a row with the pack including Nathan Brace and Stephan McNamara at 22:23 and 22:27. Josiah Luttjeboer was Dordt's fifth runner to complete the four mile course and finished tenth in 22:41 and Tim Bierma was 11th at 22:43.
The women's race included 38 runners while the men's race had 50 competitors. Dordt's women had 15 points, easily outdistancing Briar Cliff with 52 while the men were unable to chase down Dakota State with 20 points. Dordt's 35 was well in front of Briar Cliff with 95.
