(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender cross country teams ran at the Briar Clif Invite near Sioux City on Saturday morning with the men taking third and the women fifth in the twelve team fields.
Dordt scored 96 points in the men's division, finishing behind Dakota State with 46 and Doane with 65. Brent Van Schepen was Dordt's top finisher with a time of 26:15 for 11th place and Josiah Luttjeboer was also in the top-20 with a 17th place time of 26:29. David Christensen ran well for the Defenders and was 19th in 26:38.
The women totaled 145 points and held off Sioux Falls with 146 for fifth place. Morningside ran away with the women's division with a 40. Michelle Steiger was fourth in 18:38 on the 5,000 meter course while Merissa Harkema was 14th in 19:06. Rachel Werkhoven was 00:48 behind and placed 40th.
143 men ran the 8,000 meter course while 126 women covered the 5,000 meter race. Dordt will run at Mount Marty's Invite on Saturday, October 24 in the final tuneup before the GPAC Championships.
