Dakota Wesleyan Invitational

(Mitchell, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender cross country teams traveled to Mitchell, South Dakota to run in a meet hosted by Dakota Wesleyan at Wild Oak Golf Course. The Defender women outdistanced the pack with a strong finish by their 3-5 runners and had four runners in the top ten and all five in the top-11. Jen Kempers (senior; Sioux Center, Iowa) won the 5,000 meter race to spearhead the 35 point performance. The Defender men were third in the six team field and were led by Eric Tudor (freshman; Charles City, Iowa).
The women got a big improvement out of Tami Wieringa as the senior from Lombard, Illinois finished fourth in a time of 19:54 and was just over a minute behind Kempers who ran away from the pack. Steph Helmus (senior; Caledonia, Michigan finished ninth in 20:26 with Kelsey Ver Kaik (freshman; Hudsonville, Michigan)and Michelle Steiger right behind in 10th and 11th with times of 20:27 and 20:28 respectively.
After Tudor's fifth place time of 27:31 Brent Van Schepen (junior; Edgerton, Minnesota) was 15th in 28:24 with Josiah Luttjeboer (sophomore; Belleville, Ontario) and Jathan Robinson (Des Moines, Iowa) clipping off 21st and 22nd place times. Devin Van't Hof (junior; Edgerton, Minnesota) completed the scoring with a finish of 36th.

Dordt has a two week window before their next meet at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday, September 20.
